What AI search actually rewards
When someone asks ChatGPT "who's a good accountant in Footscray?", it doesn't pick at random. AI search tools draw on pages that already rank well in Google and Bing, then lean towards businesses that are clearly described, well reviewed and mentioned elsewhere. In other words, it rewards what good SEO has always rewarded, plus a few things most agencies skip.
We've written the long version, with sources, on our AI search page.
What we do
- Check what AI says about you now. We ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google the questions your customers ask, and note who gets mentioned and why.
- Make sure the doors are open. Some sites block the very crawlers that feed AI search without knowing it. If you block OAI-SearchBot, for example, you can't appear in ChatGPT search answers.
- Get into Bing properly. ChatGPT search leans heavily on Bing's index. We verify your site in Bing Webmaster Tools and switch on IndexNow, so new pages are found within hours.
- Answer questions plainly. Pages are restructured so each common question gets a short, direct answer near the top. That's easy for people to read and easy for AI to quote.
- Build trust signals. A complete Google Business Profile, a simple way to ask happy clients for reviews, and real mentions of your business on other sites.
What we won't sell you
No "guaranteed AI rankings", no special "AI schema" and no 300-article content plans. If it isn't backed by evidence, we'll tell you.
Common questions
Is AI search optimisation different from SEO?
Mostly no, and anyone who says otherwise is selling something. Google says AI Overviews need no special optimisation. The extra work is in Bing, crawler access, clear answers and your reputation around the web.
Can you guarantee I'll appear in ChatGPT?
No one can, and you should be wary of anyone who promises it. What we can do is make your business the clearest and most trustworthy option, which is what AI tools pick.
Do I need an llms.txt file?
It's harmless and we add one for free, but Google ignores it and most AI tools rarely request it. It won't fix anything on its own. More on llms.txt.
Straight answers
Do you need an llms.txt file? Probably not, but here's ours
An llms.txt file is a plain summary of your site for AI tools. It's harmless and cheap to add, but Google says it ignores it and most AI crawlers rarely ask for it. Don't pay anyone to sell it as a fix.
How to get your business recommended by ChatGPT
Let OpenAI's search crawler read your site, get properly indexed in Bing, answer common questions clearly on your pages, and build real reviews and mentions. There's no switch to flip and no one can guarantee it.
Is SEO dead because of AI? An honest answer
No. AI search tools mostly draw on pages that already rank well, so good SEO is how you get into AI answers. What has died is the old playbook of keyword-stuffed blogs and link schemes.
